Kuching 2010

After years of talking about seeing crocodiles leap out of the water to catch its prey, I finally made the chat into reality... together with B, we flew to Kuching, a trip only for the 2 of us... August 27th 2010, we board AirAsia and flew straight to Kuching Sarawak ...

Upon arrival, we went straight to our hotel stay at Grand Margeritta Kuching. After resting for a while, the journey begins...

Cat Museum...they have quite a cute guide... the floors were filled with cat paw stickers, guiding us to the museum itself but upon arrival, the main entrance was a killer... its as though we are entering those Haunted House amusement rides...

They even show that people there loves their cat so much, they actually have a cat cemetery for their beloved pets... how cool is that...
The next destination was the Sarawak Cultural Museum... this was actually quite a nice place but the weather and journey there was tough... not only was it a 1 hour drive to this place, the journey was scenic but bumpy... very bumpy... it was as though I was on a boat ride... and it was actually the first time I felt so uneasy in a car that I had to force myself to sleep... arriving there, the weather was great... clear blue skies... super hot weather... haihz... and the ticket wasn't cheap... RM60 per pax to enter...

It was actually a very nice place... we have clear blue skies, big mountains in the background, wooden houses, tonnes of greens, no cars and best of all, I see nature rather than a concrete jungle like we always do in the cities...

What B and myself is standing on is actually a bridge, made by Sarawak natives... let's see, if I am being chased by headhunters or even wild animals, this bridge will be the one that makes me lose my life... so narrow, so many holes beside...lol...

Some of the traditional houses of Sarawak natives...
And yeah... the Sarawak Rainforest World Music Festival is also held here...Day 2 was the exciting one... although only visiting 2 places, it was the places that I came to Kuching specifically for... the Jong's Crocodile Farm and the Semenggong Wildlife Centre...

First stop, Semenggong Wildlife Centre... it's located about 30 minutes cab ride out of the city, into the wilderness.. or at least suburbs... when we arrived, we have to walk a few hundred meters into the jungle to locate the feeding area of the Orang Utans...
We were all asked to be silent as noises will scare away the Orang Utans... I was pleasantly excited.. it will be my first time seeing one of them in the wild and now in the confinement of a zoo compound...
From a distance, we saw tree branches and leaves moving but we cannot see the great ape... it was like those Jurassic Park movie... when T-Rex is coming, all you see first are the trees moving... then slowly, it emerges, swinging from branches to branches... my first sight of the Orang Utan in the wild... immediately, all I hear was sounds of camera shutters clicking away... mine too of cause...

The one below is a great pose.... :)

A mother and her baby Orang Utan... and the baby is not camera shy at all... quite a cam whore actually...always looking at us while we snap their pics...

Finally, this giant... moving slowly, she seriously resembles a ghost... long hair, scary face, in the jungle and yes, its a female... to ensure that young children are allowed to look at this pic, i censored that part with leaves... hohohohoho

Next stop, the main attraction, Jong's Crocodile Farm... in this farm, there are tonnes of pictures of the giant crocodiles that Sarawakians caught, killed and when cut open, revealing scary discoveries... Crocodiles in Sarawak has a thing for human flesh it seems... many were killed and they found watches, human teeth and all in the crocs... one even has a whole boy, still fully intact, in the stomach of a giant crocodile. Below is a replica of the skull of the killer crocodile which ate the boy whole, not piece by piece...
The many crocodiles in this farm... many many many...

Their famous crowd puller... the tail-less crocodile...

This was what B and myself came all the way to Kuching for... to watch crocodiles leap up from the water to catch their prey... often see it in Discovery Channel and Animal Planet but now again, a first time for myself to see them in action for real... an animal that weight can actually leap so high... truly amazing in my point of view...

what will Kuching be without a picture with one of the many cat statues that they have all around the city center...

Finally of cause, the Kuching famous Kolo Mee... below was mine... the original Kolo Mee...
This was the killer... B thought of having prawn mee for breakfast... we both thought that it was what we all have in KL... spicy soup and all... but... to our surprise, its KOLO MEE WITHOUT THE MEAT, BUT REPLACED WITH PRAWNS... lol...
Overall, it was a great trip... expensive tho... hiring a taxi driver to bring us around... total taxi bill for 3 days, RM360
