CNY Captures

Let's start... Happy Chinese New Year...
CNY like any other year is pretty boring for me. First day, to uncle's(dad's side) place for ang pao then will head straight home. Second day, aunts(mom's side) comes over and again ang pao. Third day onwards, random people come and go. So, I took the abundance of time that I have on hand to do some hunting.
First off, actually this wasn't exactly CNY because it was 2 days before CNY but what the heck... still CNY... found this fella in the water feature so I took it out and with Charles helping me shade the frog from the sunlight because it will first, kill the frog and secondly overexpose the frog, i snapped away at it.
This little frog was kind enough to tolerate me handling it, placing it here and there (actually not to say it can run away from me also...hahahaa)
Frog looking into the distance, wondering when it can escape from my giant lens being so near to his face.
Notice how sharp the eyes are??? hehehe... look deeper into the eyes... what see u ?
A zoomed up version. The frog stayed so still I can actually pose myself in its eyes for this shot :)
Next up, this is definitely CNY... went out to hunt for some bugs... it's quite rare that I get to do some natural light shots outside. Usually I will be in jungles or under huge vegetation and trees that prevented enough sunlight for natural shots... this place was quite different...
My first Hoverfly discovered here.
It would be a waste not to catch a Hoverfly in flight shot.
Being named Hoverfly for a reason, it does hover like a hummingbird therefore, shots of it flying is quite possible but impossible also for some degree because its so small and moves so quickly its hard to get a focus. I stayed under the hot sun for almost 30 minutes, chasing this fly around. Everytime I get to focus, it flies off. Here are some of my OK shots of it flying.

and also a small spider to complete the set for the day. Total time used, 2.5 hours... pictures taken and usable, 10. This place was also the first time I saw a Giraffe Weevil but unfortunately, the wind was strong, I can focus in standing on the leaf and it flew off. Better luck next time I hope.
Next stop, Gasing Hills. This was quite a screwed up day. Went shooting and was first greeted by this very good model. Robberfly.
Then found this leaf which I cannot not take a picture of. I dont know why...hahaha
Then, my first time seeing a tortoise beetle. Not one but 3 of them together. Kinda excited.
Closeup on Tortoise Beetle.
To end off this trip, this was my last photo taken that day. Then I started to descend from the hill when accident struck. I slipped, twisted my ankle, sat in pain for 30minutes without anyone helping me, limped out in pain and came home with a leg like elephant.
Finally, this cicada found at home. At this magnification, the DOF is low so I tried some focus stacking to increase the DOF. Not too sure if its good but I think its better than the original taken.

Placed a flower behind it to create a different background than the normal green as reflected from the grass.

Well, that's all so far from my CNY collection. Saw some new bugs, snapped some and missed some. Hopefully a good start to a better macro year ahead.
One bad news, my Drybox died. Now my cameras are in danger of fungus attack. Still awaiting for a reply from the supplier if it can be fixed. Quite desperate to get it fixed ASAP or else I guess I will get a new one.
